Shine a Light on the Darkness

We are doing a Glow run to "shine a light on the darkness"!!

Run 2 Refuge is a 5K run/walk and a 1 mile fun run/walk to be held at Volunteer Landing (beside Calhoun’s on the River) on July 19, 2014. This run has been organized to help raise funds for Greater Grace Ministries. GGM is only $50,000 away from their goal to establish a rescue shelter in East Tennessee. Our goal is to raise those funds as well as create community awareness about human trafficking. Greater Grace is a 501c3 non-profit organization that is fighting to end human trafficking in Knoxville and all across our region.

According to the US Department of Justice, a child is trafficked, meaning bought and sold, every two minutes for the purpose of sexual exploitation in the United States. This is not some foregin country we’re talking about. It’s our country and it’s happening in our state and our city as well! With interstates 40 and 75 running through our state, Tennessee is a major thoroughfare for human trafficking. These children need your help to provide a safe place, a refge, to escape from the nightmare they are trapped in.

Human trafficking represents an estimated $32 billion of international trade per year, of the illegal international trade estimated at $650 billion per annum in 2010. Human trafficking is in our city. Our local news agency reports that the FBI in Knoxville calls human trafficking a growing problem. It’s happening in East Tennessee and other East Tennessee counties reported hundreds of cases. There were over 100 reported cases in Knox county in 2013.

Here are some photos from our run last year. Our focus changed from Haiti to the US to Tennessee to Knoxville as we learned more and more about human trafficking and how it effects our city and local community.
